BlackBerry (BBRY) shares were down nearly 2% premarket Tuesday after Toyota Motor (TM) announced that it is transitioning away from the company’s technology for the consoles in its Camry sedans.
Toyota announced that it will be using open source software from Automotive Grade Linux in the Entune 3.0 consoles of its 2018 Camry sedan before it expands the technology to most of its Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the U.S.
However, BlackBerry downplayed the significance of the switch with COO Marty Beard writing in a blog post, “None of these challenger platforms is close to displacing BlackBerry QNX in safety-critical modules, areas that are growing faster than infotainment in the modern software-defined car.”
