An area school district is among the nation’s most the tech-savvy. The Houston County system won first place in the 2016-17 Digital School District Survey for districts with 12,000 or more students.
The survey highlights districts that have expanded their use of new technologies. It’s coordinated by the Center for Digital Education and the National School Boards Association, and all public school districts are eligible to participate.
Updating technology in the classrooms was a major part of Houston’s 2012-2017 education special local option sales tax plan. The Houston district also received the first place award in 2007 and has placed in the top 10 six times since 2004.
