Health Cluster charts path forward for emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities

On 27 February 2024 the World Health Organization, Ministry of Health and partners participated in a landmark meeting of the Health Cluster Supporting Team (Tim Pendukung Klaster Kesehetan), Indonesia’s chief coordinating mechanism for health emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities.

The focus of the meeting was on better aligning the Health Cluster’s activities with Indonesia’s health transformation agenda, including Health Law Number 17, passed in August 2023. Among other priorities, the Health Law aims to build health system resilience and increase emergency preparedness and response capacities, drawing on lessons learned from the COVID-19 response and acting on recommendations from the country’s Joint External Evaluation of IHR Core Capacities, conducted in October 2023.

Over 20 partners participated in the meeting, which brought together six sub-clusters and established a framework for regular Health Cluster meetings to improve coordination, information exchange and strategic planning for health system resilience and emergency preparedness and response activities.
