Cardiff dentist’s unusual plan for his prize money on Who Wants to be a Millionaire

A dentist from Cardiff will now be able to travel the UK to watch his unusual favourite sport, after scooping up £16,000 on tonight’s Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Segun Olujide told host Jeremy Clarkson that if he “won big” on the show he would spend the money visiting towns and cities like Peterborough, where his beloved curling is played and shown live.

At the start of Sunday’s programme, Segun was the quickest to correctly answer the ‘fastest finger’ introductory question and put four Olympic games in date order – and so he was promptly invited up to the platform to play the main game. There, it was a strong start for Segun with several correct answers in a row before he needed to use any of his lifelines.

For the £16,000 question, Segun asked the audience – and they helped him answer correctly. For the question “The 1953 painting ‘Going to the match’ showing a crowd of supporters outside Bolton Wanderers’ football ground, is by which artist?”,” more than 80% of the audience voted for the answer option LS Lowry, so Segun chose this option and was delighted the audience were correct. Segun then decided to set his safety net, before having to use his remaining three lifelines, 50:50, Ask Jeremy and Call a Friend for his £32,000 question. Torn between whether the Faroe Islands are located in the Arctic or Atlantic oceans – with his friend on the phone suggesting Atlantic and Jeremy suggesting Arctic – Segun chose not to answer the question and to instead take his £16,000 winnings.

Jeremy Clarkson said he “didn’t blame” Segun for cutting his losses and accepting the money and backstage, Segun’s partner Becky seemed delighted with his win.
