An accelerating shift away from petrol and diesel cars toward electric vehicles has sent lithium prices to their highest level in nearly three years, turbocharging a rally in ASX-listed producers of the battery material.
Registrations of new battery and plug-in hybrid EVs have surged since the United States attacked Iran in February. Global EV sales jumped 6 per cent from a year earlier to 1.6 million in April, according to data from Benchmark Mineral Intelligence. That follows a record 1.75 million sales in March.
