Normally a verbal commitment from a prospect in the 2028 class or later doesn’t elicit a full article, just a Feed post.
Meshi Dobson, however, isn’t a normal 2028 prospect.
Dobson, a 6’3, 235-pound 4-star prospect who will play for Cypress Bay this season, has committed to the Seminoles and is putting in the work to reclassify into the 2027 class.
Dobson is currently considered the 324th best player in the nation per 247 Composite (34th best edge rusher, 49th best in FL). 247 is higher on him, and I agree with them- they have Dobson as the 234th best player nationally (24th best edge, 34th best in FL). I think he is a legitimate top-250 player in the 2028 cycle. Since he’s reclassifying, his ranking will take a hit but the production remains the same and that earlier year in the weight room could really pay off down the line.
Last season for Plantation High School, Dobson put up 72 tackles (31 for loss), 14 sacks, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery. Remember, this is a sophomore playing against legitimate competition with a lot of future D1 athletes (Plantation played American Heritage twice last season). He played alongside current FSU commits Zakari Johnson and Jemari Foreman, and the constant QB pressure provided by Dobson undoubtedly helped Foreman to collect a state-leading 10 interceptions. He had double the amount of sacks as the next-best player on the team and was second on the team in tackles per game (from the defensive end position).
Florida State has certainly made waves in the Plantation program and despite several commits and targets transferring to other schools for their senior seasons, the Seminoles sit in a good position to maintain their momentum.
