A major healthcare summit is coming to Leeds this week to demystify clinical trials and give underrepresented communities a direct voice in medical innovation.
A pioneering health summit is coming to Leeds this week to break down the barriers surrounding medical research and clinical trials.
For many everyday people, terms like “clinical trials” or “medical research” can feel highly intimidating, exclusive, or entirely distant from their daily lives.

Despite research driving massive historical medical breakthroughs, including vaccines, antibiotics, and MRI scans, many local communities remain heavily underrepresented in healthcare conversations and study participation.
The free summit has been specifically designed to change that dynamic by creating an open, comfortable, and completely informal environment.
Dr Giovannie Jean-Louis, Co-Director of PROBr, emphasised the human side of the project, stating: “Many people hear terms like ‘clinical trials’ or ‘research’ and immediately feel like it’s something distant or difficult to understand. We created this summit to make healthcare research feel more human, relatable, and accessible to everyday communities.”
Co-Director Dr Meghana Nadella added: “People deserve to feel heard, represented, and comfortable asking questions about their healthcare. This event is about creating that space.”
Running on May 22, the live, in-person summit brings together clinicians, innovators, patient advocates, and residents under one roof, with attendees provided the opportunities to hear directly from medical professionals and healthcare innovators about how studies impact everyday treatments, listen to real patient lived experiences and discover how the power of patient advocacy shapes modern medicine and explore local opportunities to participate in active, ongoing research studies.
The event will also give residents the chance to ask questions regarding clinical trials in a relaxed, comfortable, and welcoming setting
For those who are unable to travel to the Cardigan Community Centre in person, a free live stream of the entire summit and panel discussion will be broadcast simultaneously.
How can I attend the Your Voice in Health Research Summit?
