Past and present Liberal MPs have urged the fractured party to focus on its traditional core strengths of economic management and national security, citing Sussan Ley’s recent speech about the nation living beyond its means as an obvious rallying point.

With last week’s resignation from the shadow ministry of Andrew Hastie exacerbating tensions in the party, several Liberals, including former prime minister Scott Morrison, pointed to Ley’s speech last month about the Albanese government’s unsustainable budget policy as an area on which they could agree.
