Here’s a preview of Monday’s Chorus Substack Live for paying subscribers on Substack Live today at 10.00 am, including the key news in Aotearoa’s political economy around housing, climate and poverty and my Picks ‘n Mixes of links elsewhere. I’ll focus on these six things in the Substack Live:

  1. PM Christopher Luxon has defended the Government’s economic record, pointing to the need to consolidate spending and debt.

  2. But Government debt has actually risen and the consolidation is not contributing to economic growth in the absence of business investment and a housing boom.

  3. Luxon’s economic strategy depends on a repeat of housing or business investment booms to pick up the slack from a retreating Government. That’s not happening this time. Our economy can’t handle that truth.

  4. An investigation by Nicholas Jones for Stuff has revealed grave concerns over understaffing in maternity care killing babies.

  5. Reportage by Liu Chen for RNZ points to a problem with land-banked rental properties allowing neglect of both the buildings and tenants.

The presentation I’ll use, which includes the front pages of news sites and newspapers at 6am this morning, is attached below the fold. Looking forward to seeing paying subscribers at 10.00 am here. A recorded version will go out in a later email to paying subscribers, which I’ll open up to all if we get more than 100 likes.
