The global economy and the theories that have sustained it for generations are under strain. From the Russia-Ukraine war to U.S. strikes on Iran, and now the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, shocks are forcing economists to rethink how to adapt.

A new theory by Russian economist Sergey Bodrunov, known as noonomy, proposes moving beyond market capitalism and compulsory material labour towards knowledge-intensive technology and human development.

Makerere University is set to become Africa’s hub for implementing this research outside Russia.
