The launch of a new 24-hour economy market in Bole is raising hopes of a major transformation in trade, employment and agricultural marketing in the community and the wider Savannah Region.
The market was launched on May 23, 2026, by President John Dramani Mahama as part of a government initiative to develop 261 modern markets across Ghana. Bole has been selected to benefit from the largest, or model category of the market facilities under the initiative.
For a town known for trading and small-scale businesses, the project is expected to provide a modern commercial environment where economic activities can continue beyond the traditional market hours.
The development is also expected to complement Bole’s traditional Friday market by providing additional opportunities for traders, farmers, consumers and businesses.
According to reports by the Ghana News Agency, the Bole market is expected to provide an additional outlet for local and regional food sourcing, while creating opportunities for people involved in agriculture and trade.
A boost for farmers and traders
Agriculture remains an important part of the economic life of Bole and surrounding communities, with farmers producing crops including rice and yam.
For many farmers, producing food is only one part of the challenge. Finding reliable buyers and getting their produce to profitable markets is a key difficulty.
The new market could provide farmers with a more organised platform to connect with traders, wholesalers and consumers.
Rice and yam farmers, for instance, could benefit from increased access to buyers, while traders could have a larger and more organised space to sell agricultural produce.

The President, during the launch, reportedly described the market site as one of the best and expressed the hope that it would become one of the busiest markets in Ghana.

Potential employment opportunities for the youth
Employment is another area where the market could make a difference.
