No longer content with just using tariffs, Trump has been stepping up both the frequency and depth of his intervention in corporate America. Recent moves include firing the head of the Bureau of Labour Statistics, threatening to sue the Federal Reserve chairman and ordering Goldman Sachs to fire their chief economist.

It now appears that the administration’s interference in the institutional structure that underpins free market capitalism is reaching a level never before seen in the United States.
