The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) hosted an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) event aimed at empowering young girls and encouraging them to explore careers in the digital sector.
The event was aligned with International Girls in ICT Day, and brought together learners, students and professionals who shared their knowledge and experiences.

They included activities such as basic coding workshops, career guidance sessions and mentorship opportunities, in which participants interacted with women already working in the technology industry. The sessions helped the learners gain practical skills and a better understanding of the different career paths available in ICT.
They addressed the gender gap in technology by building confidence and interest among young girls. Participants were encouraged to see that technology is not only for men, but a field where women can also succeed and make a difference.

By providing exposure and support, the university aimed to inspire the girls to pursue studies and careers in ICT.
