Patients across the Saginaw region now have access to one of the most advanced imaging technologies available with the installation of a new state-of-the-art 3 Tesla (3T) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system at MyMichigan Medical Center Saginaw.

MyMichigan Medical Center Saginaw staff celebrate the arrival of the Medical Center’s new 3T MRI system. The advanced technology offers enhanced patient comfort, produces exceptionally detailed images and can reduce scan times by up to 50% compared with previous technologies. Utilizing advanced deep-learning image reconstruction, the system generates sharper images with thinner slices, helping physicians diagnose conditions with greater confidence while potentially reducing the need for repeat imaging. The 3T MRI provides exceptional detail and enhanced soft tissue contrast for neurological, orthopedic, abdominal and cancer imaging.
The new MRI system combines exceptional image quality, faster scan times and enhanced patient comfort, helping physicians diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions with greater confidence while allowing patients to receive advanced care close to home.

MRI is one of today’s most sophisticated diagnostic imaging tools, using powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to produce highly detailed images of organs, tissues and other structures inside the body. The new 3T MRI delivers ultra-high-resolution images and enhanced soft tissue contrast, making it particularly valuable for neurological, orthopedic, abdominal and cancer imaging.
“We are excited to bring this latest MRI technology to the patients and communities we serve,” said Mike Erickson, market president – east, Michigan Medical Centers in Alpena, Saginaw, Standish, Tawas and Towne Centre. “This investment underscores our commitment to providing advanced diagnostic services close to home while continuing to strengthen the comprehensive, high-quality care available throughout the region.”
Designed with the patient experience in mind, the new system features a wide 70-centimeter bore that provides additional space within the scanner, helping reduce feelings of claustrophobia and improving comfort for patients of varying sizes, ages and physical conditions. A detachable patient table simplifies positioning, while flexible, blanket-like coils replace traditional rigid coils to make exams more comfortable and less restrictive.
“We recognize that MRI exams can be stressful for some patients,” said Joseph Adel, M.D., board-certified neurosurgeon and neuroscience service line chief, MyMichigan Health. “Features such as the spacious wide-bore design, faster imaging capabilities and flexible coil technology help create a more comfortable experience without compromising image quality.”

In addition to enhancing comfort, the MRI system improves efficiency and diagnostic precision. Its powerful 3T magnet produces exceptionally detailed images while reducing scan times by up to 50% compared with previous technologies. Advanced deep-learning image reconstruction generates sharper images with thinner slices, helping physicians identify abnormalities more clearly and potentially reducing the need for repeat scans.
“The clarity and level of detail provided by this technology can make a meaningful difference in patient care,” Adel said. “Enhanced visualization of soft tissue and complex anatomy allows physicians to see structures with remarkable precision, supporting earlier detection, more accurate diagnoses and more informed treatment decisions.”
The new MRI system also aligns with MyMichigan Health’s commitment to sustainability. Designed to operate more efficiently, the unit requires less power and significantly less helium than previous MRI systems, helping reduce its environmental impact while maintaining exceptional performance.
