Helio Genomics has appointed Parminder “Parry” Bhatia, Senior Vice President of Artificial Intelligence at Edwards Lifesciences, to its Board of Directors, adding an experienced healthcare AI executive as the precision diagnostics company expands its artificial intelligence-driven platform for early cancer detection and disease monitoring.

The appointment comes as Helio Genomics continues scaling its AI-powered, blood-based diagnostics platform, which combines multiomics, liquid biopsy technology and machine learning to support earlier detection of liver cancer, disease surveillance and precision medicine applications.

Bhatia brings extensive experience developing and deploying artificial intelligence in regulated healthcare environments. At Edwards Lifesciences, he leads AI initiatives across the medical technology company. Before joining Edwards, he served as Chief AI Officer at GE HealthCare, where he helped shape the company’s enterprise AI strategy across imaging, ultrasound and software products while contributing to its responsible AI governance framework.

Earlier in his career, Bhatia held artificial intelligence and machine learning leadership roles at Amazon, including work focused on healthcare AI and generative AI, as well as positions at Microsoft and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

“Parminder’s leadership in healthcare AI and responsible innovation will be invaluable as Helio scales its platform to detect cancer earlier and improve outcomes for patients worldwide,” said Dr. Bharat Tewarie, chief executive officer of Helio Genomics. “His strategic perspective will strengthen our governance and support sustained, long-term value creation.”

Bhatia said Helio’s technology illustrates how artificial intelligence can enhance the clinical value of multiomics and liquid biopsy testing, particularly for hepatocellular carcinoma, the most common form of primary liver cancer, where earlier diagnosis can significantly influence patient outcomes.

He added that he sees broader opportunities to combine biological and clinical data using advanced machine learning and foundation models to expand the company’s platform beyond early detection into disease monitoring, treatment response and precision medicine applications.

The appointment reflects a broader trend across the healthcare industry, where diagnostics companies are recruiting experienced AI leaders to help navigate the technical, regulatory and governance challenges associated with deploying machine learning in clinical settings. As precision medicine increasingly relies on integrating genomic, molecular and clinical data, companies are investing in leadership with expertise in both AI development and responsible implementation.

Bhatia has been recognized for his work in healthcare technology by several industry organizations, including Modern Healthcare‘s 40 Under 40, CDO Magazine and Constellation Research. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in computational science and engineering, with a focus on machine learning, from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Helio Genomics is a commercial-stage TechBio company developing AI-powered diagnostics for early cancer detection and minimal residual disease monitoring. Its blood-based platform applies machine learning and deep learning to analyze multiple biomarkers, helping clinicians identify cancer earlier and support more personalized treatment decisions.
