Lok Bhawan (Anantnag), Jul 26: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said the younger generation must be inspired towards responsibility and selfless action for the nation and that knowledge finds true meaning only when joined with humility and service.
Addressing the Harbah Festival at Teerathraj Lok Bhawan in Anantnag, Sinha said spiritual values had to form the basis of people’s lives if a peaceful, prosperous and balanced world was to be built.
“I would especially like to request the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. I believe that knowledge is only fulfilled when it is connected with humility. Knowledge becomes pure when it is connected with service,” he said.
Quoting the Bhagavad Gita, the LG said, “Your right is only to perform your actions. Therefore, without worrying about the results, always perform your duties and do good deeds.” He said the new generation had to be inspired towards responsibility and selfless action for the nation.
“We have to bring the ideals of Sanatan Dharma into our actions. I believe that when individuals and organisations follow the principles of dharma, trust and prosperity grow in society,” he said.
Sinha said mental and spiritual health deserved as much attention as physical strength. “In today’s stressful life, physical strength as well as peace of mind is necessary,” he said, adding that self-reflection, meditation, self-discipline and positive thinking were needed for a balanced life.
The Lieutenant Governor said technology gave strength while values gave direction, and development gave momentum while culture provided balance. “Sanatan culture never meant defeating others; it meant conquering oneself. Hence, since ancient times, the message of Bharatvarsha has been peace, coexistence and the welfare of humanity,” he said.
Earlier, Sinha said the Harbah Festival was a moment of devotion, gratitude and spiritual experience, and that every stone, water source and breath at the site carried the message of the eternal consciousness of Sanatan culture, which had shown humanity the path of truth, compassion and dharma for centuries.
He said the ancient name of the place was Lokpunya, with its mention found in Kalhana’s Rajatarangini. The annual yajna and flag-hoisting ceremony, he said, had not only continued a tradition but revived an eternal flame symbolising faith, service, sacrifice, patience, courage and social cohesion.
The real strength of society, Sinha said, lay in spiritual values and human connections. “When there is compassion within a person, peace is established in society,” he said, adding that while science, technology and innovation had brought the world closer, loneliness, intolerance and division had also increased. “Today, although the means of communication have increased, the distance between hearts seems to be growing,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor said the message of Mata Sidh Lakshmi and Teerathraj Lok Bhawan was not only about prosperity but also wisdom, spiritual attainment and goodness. He said the Vedic tradition had always regarded humanity as one family and that division could never be a solution. “Solutions are born from constant cooperation,” he said, adding that true devotion was expressed through human service, respect and selfless love.
