The meeting discussed the importance of strengthening national coordination on issues related to climate change and its impacts on public health, including heat waves, air quality deterioration, and increasing pressures on health and environmental systems.
The meeting also explored ways to develop proper and sustainable management of medical waste and to strengthen treatment and monitoring mechanisms, in order to reduce environmental and health risks and safeguard the well-being of citizens and healthcare sector workers.
The two ministers emphasized the importance of joint work and the exchange of expertise and data between the ministries, in a way that contributes to supporting national policies aimed at protecting public health and the environment and enhancing Lebanon’s capacity to face future challenges.
Both Ministers agreed on the establishment of a joint coordination unit to follow up on climate and health projects, contributing to the unification of efforts, enhancing cooperation among the relevant parties, and developing joint initiatives and projects related to environmental health and climate change adaptation.
