SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) – The Southport Police Department is asking the public to help identify two persons of interest in connection with the vandalism of roughly 240 chairs, tents, and other personal items along the July 4 parade route.

The department posted images of the two persons of interest to social media Wednesday, asking anyone who recognizes them to come forward. Police officials confirmed the post is related to the vandalism investigation along North Howe Street.

City of Southport Public Works personnel found the damaged items the morning before the parade and notified police around 7:30 a.m.

Investigators documented approximately 240 items that had been intentionally cut or damaged. The items had been placed by residents and visitors to hold viewing spots along the parade route.

Additional reports came in throughout the day on July 3 as more property owners discovered their belongings had been vandalized, officials said.

Anyone who recognizes the persons of interest is asked to contact the Southport Police Department at 910-457-7911 or Detective Riley Ransom directly at rransom@cityofsouthport.gov.

Police are also asking anyone whose property was damaged to provide Detective Ransom with their full name, contact number, address, the location where their property was placed along Howe Street, a description of the damaged property, and the estimated value of the damaged property.
