A former minister of Defence, Lt-Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd), has said the ongoing construction of the Takum Modern Market will position Taraba State as a major economic destination in Nigeria.
Danjuma stated this during an inspection of the facility in Takum, headquarters of Takum local government area.
The elder statesman said the market was designed to meet international standards and to attract both local and foreign investors upon completion.
According to him, the project has the potential to transform the economic fortunes of Taraba State and to significantly improve the state internally generated revenue.
“Soon, Taraba will become the economic hub of Nigeria and it will serve as a global business centre capable of supporting 24-hour commercial activities,” Danjuma said.
The elder statesman commended the chairman of Takum local government council, Hon. Benjamin Bako, for initiating the project and ensuring quality execution of the work.
Earlier, Bako said the ultra-modern market was conceived to provide a conducive business environment for traders and investors while stimulating economic growth in the state.
He explained that the project was aimed at boosting revenue generation and creating investment opportunities, particularly for youths in the area.
The council chairman, then reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to executing people-oriented projects that would improve the living standards of residents.
