Blockchain-based sports platform Chiliz said on April 21 that 50,000 fan tokens for Indonesian professional soccer club Persija Jakarta sold out within an hour of launch.

The company said the tokens were quickly bought up after sales opened, highlighting rising demand for fan tokens in Southeast Asia. Persija Jakarta, a traditional club based in Indonesia’s capital of Jakarta, has strong local name recognition.

The partnership adds Persija Jakarta to Chiliz’s fan-engagement ecosystem, which includes global clubs such as FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City. Chiliz has expanded global partnerships through its blockchain-based platform linking sports clubs and fans.

Fan tokens allow holders to vote on certain club decisions, receive rewards and access exclusive content. Users can deepen engagement with their club through the tokens, which can also be traded on some cryptocurrency exchanges.

Industry participants said the sellout reflects broader participation from global sports fans and shows that blockchain-based fan-engagement models are gaining ground in Southeast Asia.

They also said interest in national-team and club fan tokens may rise ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with major sports events potentially driving additional demand.

Chiliz Chief Executive Officer Alexandre Dreyfus said the company would draw on experience built through partnerships with global sports organizations to deliver new digital experiences for fans. He added that Chiliz would continue expanding an ecosystem that combines technology with fan engagement.
