Robinhood Chief Executive Officer Vlad Tenev’s X account was hacked and used to promote a fake meme coin.
CoinDesk reported on July 23 that Tenev’s account was compromised that day. Using the hijacked account, the hacker promoted a token called Vladhood (VLAD) as the “official mascot” of the Robinhood Chain and falsely claimed it would be listed on the Robinhood app. The post also included a blockchain wallet address.
Robinhood said through its official communications account that the post promoting the fake meme coin had been removed. The company added that it was working with X to restore access to Tenev’s account.
The incident came shortly after Robinhood launched its own blockchain network. According to a dashboard from on-chain data platform Dune, Robinhood Chain has attracted more than $700 million in assets since launch, including stablecoins, tokenized stocks and meme coins. Daily active addresses have exceeded 300,000, while daily transactions are running at about 10 million.
